AUDITION | Estonian National Symphony Orchestra — Concertmaster
Applications for the Baltic ensemble close on August 25, 2022
The Estonian National Symphony Orchestra is seeking applications for the position of Concertmaster (Principal First Violin). The orchestra has two concertmaster positions that are equal in stature and responsibility, and one of these is currently vacant.
Based in Tallinn, the orchestra is led by Olari Elts, while Neeme Järvi serves as its Honorary Artistic Director for Life and Paavo Järvi is its Artistic Adviser.
The audition will be held in three rounds – the video round, the stage round, and the orchestra round. Initially, applicants should send an uncut video recording of themselves playing the violin solo from Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, the violin solo from the Rimsky-Korsakov suite Scheherezade, op.35, and a short piece of candidate’s own choice, accompaniment permitted.
The second round of auditions are comprised of the usual concerto and orchestral excerpts, and will take place on September 27, 2022. Only live auditions are possible. The candidates progressing from the live rounds will undertake a trial period with the orchestra before the winner of the audition is announced.
The orchestra rehearses in Estonian, so the successful candidate will need to become familiar with the language in a relatively short space of time.
Initial recordings and applications must be received by August 25, 2022. You can read more about the audition here.
