Québec’s Mécénat Musica Program Reaches $100 Million Goal
The philanthropic group has attained $100 million in capital for Québec cultural organizations in perpetuity
Founded in 2013 and based in Québec, Canada, the Mécénat Musica is a cultural program from and for donors to secure the future of the arts and culture scene.
The organization invites individuals to make an in perpetuity donation of $25,000 to a cultural organization important to them, and encourages philanthropic families to match these individuals’ donations with ones of $250,000 or $2.5 million.
It has now reached its $100 million goal in perpetuity capital for Québec cultural organizations, involving over 700 large donations from individuals and families.
The $100 million is being administered by three collaborating community foundations — Foundation of Greater Montreal, Jewish Community Foundation of Montreal, and Foundation Québec Philanthrope — which will generate $5 million in annual revenue in perpetuity for 50 cultural organizations across Québec.
Additionally, the 50 organizations employ over 5,000 artists annually and include those in music, festivals, theater, museums, visual arts and dance. Locations include Montreal, Quebec City, Laval, and the regions of la Capitale-Nationale, Montérégie, Chaudière-Appalaches, Lanaudière, Centre-du-Québec, and Gaspésie.
Contributors to the $100 million included over a hundred board members of cultural organizations, entrepreneurs/business, retirees, plus 76 musicians and artists, 50 investment managers, health workers, accountants, lawyers, engineers, and teachers.
“Thank you also to Mécénat Musica Donors in Residence, Jacques Marchand and Marie-Christine Tremblay, whose leadership and collaboration resulted in 100+ Mécénat Musica donors for 23 cultural organizations, to keep culture healthy ... in perpetuity ... for generations to come,” Mécénat Musica wrote in the press release.
To mark the historic achievement, the organization has invited contributors to attend a Maison Symphonique concert on Mother’s Day next year on May 11, 2025.
