Original Letter from Legendary Violin Collector to be Auctioned this Month
An original hand written letter by 18th Century violin collector Count Ignazio Alessandro Cozio di Salabue is set to be auctioned this month
An original hand written letter by influential 18th Century violin collector Count Ignazio Alessandro Cozio di Salabue is set to be auctioned online this month at Tarisio’s June 2017 London Auction.
Dated 3rd March 1803 and addressed to a Madame Donas, the letter requests the return of a 1730 Stradivari violin.
At the time, Count Cozio amassed one of the largest collections of fine violins in the world - including an extensive collection of Stradivaris, Guadagninis, Amatis and Bergonzis.
Tarisio Director Jason Price has indicated that he believes the letter provides a great insight into the world of the 18th Century fine instrument dealing - and that this is likely to be the first time something like this has been offered at auction.
Bidding on the letter is open now - and will finish on the 26th June, 2017.
It is estimated the letter is likely to sell for between £1800-£2500.
