A protégé of Pyotr Stolyarsky, Leopold Auer, and Eugene Ysaye, he is widely regarded as one of the finest violinists of all time

Soviet-born American violin virtuoso Nathan Milstein died on this day in 1992, aged 88.

He also toured in the United States and Canada, making his American debut in 1929 with the Philadelphia Orchestra.

In 1968, he was recognized by France as an officer of the Legion of Honour.

For much of his career, he concertized on the 1716 Goldman Stradivarius.
