APPLY | California’s 18th Street Arts Center — Visiting Artist Residency
Ongoing applications will join the waitlist for the one- to three-month residency program, where funding is on a case-by-case basis
Founded in 1992 and based in Santa Monica, California, the 18th Street Arts Center’s Visiting Artist Residency Program has hosted over 500 art curators, writers, and musicians of all generations, nationalities, and disciplines from across the U.S. and abroad. The program includes invited artists as well as artists selected through the application process.
The center comprises four live/work artist studios, where residencies can last from one to three months at a time, or longer. While funding is case-by-case, the program encourages artists to secure or apply for financial assistance to cover the residency’s costs through various funding programs.
In some cases, the program has agreements with cultural ministries and other funders to underwrite artist residencies. A list of international residency funders and tips on funding and applying can be found at Res Artis or the Alliance for Artist Communities.
Though the 18th Street Arts Center primarily supports visual artists, they will also consider applications from performing artists, writers, and filmmakers. To apply, click here. For more information, click here.
