Eminent Soviet violin pedagogue Yuri Yankelevich was born on this day in 1909.

A student of Leopold Auer, Professor Yankelevich served a long term teaching position on faculty at the Moscow Conservatory – his famed students included Boris Belkin, Dora Schwarzberg, Mikhaïl Bezverkhny, Vladimir Spivakov, Viktor Tretyakov, Albert Markov and Nelli Shkolnikova.
