The Winners & Grinners – 2015 International Competition & Bursary Prize Winners

As the 2015 competition year winds to an end, we take a look back at the year's major international competition prize winners and bursary recipients - including VC 'Young Artists' Richard Lin, Suyeon Kang, Ji Young Lim, Yu-Chien Benny Tseng, Timothy Chooi, William Hagen, Tobias Feldmann, Stephen Waarts, Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, Igor Pikayzen, Francisco Garcia Fullana, In Mo Yang, Ayana Tsuji, Fedor Rudin,  Zeyu Victor Li, Bomsori Kim, Alexandra Conunova,  Simone Porter, Augustin Hadelich and Paul Huang.

27 year old Sergei Dogadin from Russia was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition, in Hannover, Germany.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 26 year old Shion Minimi from Japan and 24 year old VC ‘Young Artist’ Richard Lin from Taiwan/United States.

4th, 5th and 6th prizes were awarded to Benjamin Marquise Gilmore from the Netherlands/United States, VC 'Rising Star' Ayana Tsuji from Japan and Amalia Hall from New Zealand.

20 year old VC ‘Young Artist’ Ji Young Lim from South Korea was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 26 year old Oleksii Semenenko from Ukraine and 22 year old VC ‘Young Artist’ William Hagen from the United States.

4th, 5th and 6th prizes were awarded to VC ‘Young Artist’ Tobias Feldmann from Germany, VC ‘Young Artist’ Stephen Waarts from United States/Holland and Fumika Mohri from Japan.

25 year old Christel Lee from the United States was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Jean Sibelius International Violin Competition, in Helsinki, Finland.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 20 year old VC ‘Young Artist’ Emmanuel Tjeknavorian from Austria and 26 year old Friederike Starkloff from Germany.

26 year old VC 'Young Artist' Suyeon Kang from Australia was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Michael Hill International Violin Competition, in New Zealand.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 24 year old Eunae Koh from South Korea and 21 year old VC 'Young Artist' Timothy Chooi from Canada.

4th, 5th and 6th prizes were awarded to Natsumi Tsuboi from Japan, Elly Suh from the United States and Marie-Christine Klettner from Austria.

20 year old VC ‘Young Artist’ Yu-Chien Benny Tseng from Taiwan was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 inaugural Singapore International Violin Competition.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 23 year old VC ‘Young Artist’ Richard Lin from Taiwan and 20 year old Sirena Huang from the United States.

4th, 5th and 6th prizes were awarded to VC ‘Young Artist’ Alexandra Conunova from Moldova, Hyun Jae Lim from South Korea and VC ‘Young Artist’ Fedor Rudin from France.

20 year old VC ‘Young Artist’ Yu-Chien Benny Tseng from Taiwan was awarded 2nd prize, the highest accolade awarded, at the 2015 Tchaikovsky International Violin Competition, in Moscow, Russia.

Joint 3rd prizes were awarded to VC ‘Young Artist’ Alexandra Conunova from Moldova, Pavel Milyukov from Russia and Haik Kazazyan from Russia.

4th and 5th prizes were awarded to VC ‘Young Artist’ Clara Jumi Kang from Germany and VC 'Young Artist' Bomsori Kim from South Korea.

19 year old VC ‘Young Artist’ In Mo Yang from South Korea was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Paganini International Violin Competition, in Genoa, Italy.

2nd prize was awarded to 20 year old Fumika Mohri from Japan – and 3rd prize to 23 year old Albrecht Menzel from Germany.

4th, 5th and 6th prizes were awarded to Diana Pasko from Russia, Elly Suh from the United States and Dainis Medjaniks from Latvia.

27 year old VC ‘Young Artist’ Igor Pikayzen from Russia/United States was awarded 1st prize at the Dr Luis Sigall International Violin Competition, in Vina del Mar, Chile.

2nd prize was awarded to Stepan Lavrov from Russia – and 3rd place to Bastian Loewe from Chile.

17 year old VC 'Rising Star' Ayana Tsuji from Japan and 27 year old Suliman Tekalli from the United States were awarded joint 2nd prize at the 2015 Seoul International Violin Competition, in South Korea.

3rd and 4th prizes were awarded to Petteri Iivonen from Finland and Christine Seohyun Lin from the United States.

5th and 6th prizes were awarded to Stephen Kim from the United States and Xiao Wang from China.

24 year old Serbian violinist Robert Lakatos was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Sarasate International Violin Competition, in Pamplona, Spain.

Second prize was awarded to 17 year old Angela Wee from the United States.

24 year old VC ‘Young Artist’ Francisco Garcia Fullana from Spain has been awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Munetsugu Angel International Violin Competition in Nagoya, Japan.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Seina Matsuoka from Japan and Youjin Lee from South Korea.

4th and 5th prizes were awarded to Mayuko Ishigami and Haerim Oh.

VC 'YOUNG ARTIST' FRANCISCO GARCIA FULLANA | BRAHMS VIOLIN CONCERTO | MUNETSUGU ANGEL INTERNATIONAL VIOLIN COMPETITION | 2015

18 year old VC ‘Young Artist’ Zeyu Victor Li from China was awarded 1st Prize at the 19th Annual Schadt String Competition, in Allentown, USA.

2nd prize was awarded to violinist Clare Elena Semes from the United States – and 3rd prize to violinist Wei Lu from China.

23 year old violinist Alican Suner from Turkey and 20 year old violist Diyang Mei from China were awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Max Rostal International Violin & Viola Competitions, in Berlin, Germany.

16 year old violinist Jimmy Park was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Australian National Youth Concerto Competition – in Brisbane, Australia.

Elli Choi from the United States and Eva Rabchevska from Ukraine were awarded joint-1st prize in the Senior Division of the 2015 Lipinski and Wieniawski International Competition for Young Violinists, in Poland.

26 year old New Zealand violinist Amalia Hall was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Leos Janacek International Violin Competition, in Prague, Czech Republic.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Amelia Maszonska from Poland – and David Mirzoev from the Czech Republic.

15 year old Mone Hattori from Japan was awarded the Grand Prix prize at the 2015 Boris Goldstein International Violin Competition, in Bern, Switzerland.

Joint 1st prize was awarded to 28 year old Stefan Tarara from Germany and 26 year old Aleksey Semenenko from the Ukraine.

3rd and 4th prizes were awarded to 24 year old Shiori Terauchi from Japan and 24 year old Arsenis Selalmazidis from Greece/Russia.

5th and 6th prizes were awarded to 24 year old Furong Li from China and 24 year old Benjamin Baker from New Zealand/United Kingdom.

Violin virtuoso Itzhak Perlman was honoured as the 2016 Genesis Prize Laureate. Presented annually since 2014, the Genesis Prize honours individuals who have attained excellence and international renown in their chosen professional fields and who have inspired others through their engagement and dedication to the Jewish community and State of Israel.

Italian-German violin virtuoso VC ‘Artist’ Augustin Hadelich was awarded the inaugural recipient of the US $100,000 Warner Music Group classical music bursary.

VC ‘Young Artist’ 25 year old Spanish violinist Francisco Garcia Fullana was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Pro Musicis International Awards, in New York City.

The Sphinx Organization, a US non-profit organization dedicated to the development of young American Black and Latino classical musicians, announced the 19 recipients of the 2015 Inaugural Mpower Artist Grants.

The 2015 recipients were:

Ana Lucía Galarza, $35,000 – to attend The City College of New York

Andrew Joseph Gonzalez, $3300 – to attend the Tokyo International Viola Competition and the Verbier Festival Academy

Angelica Durrell, $20,000 – To increase the impact of the INTAKE Native Instrument Academy

Annelle Gregory, $6,725 – To record the complete works of Rachmaninoff for violin and piano

Christine Lamprea, $20,000 – to pursue studies with cellist Matt Haimovitz

Dana Kelly, $2850 – to attend the Vienna University of Music summer masterclass in Semmering, Austria

Douglas Cardwell, $45,00- – to purchase 5 American Dresden Mark XIV Timpanies

Gabriela Lena Frank, $41,000 – to revise and create piano reductions of major chamber and symphonic pieces

Gabrielle Hooper, $1,500 – to attend the Interlochen Center for Arts 1 week Cello Institute

Jannina Norpoth, $27,000 – to create, produce and perform a multimedia song cycle for rock band ‘Hollands’, string quartet ‘PublicQuartet’ and visual artist Amy Khoshbin

Joseph Conyers, $30,000 – to create a career, social entrepreneurial and leadership training programme for student’s at the Philadelphia All-City program

Juan-Salvador Carrasco, $3,050 – to attend the Heifetz International Music Institute

Karla Donehew-Perez, $30,000 – to purchase a violin by German luthier Stefan-Peter Greiner

Kelly Hall-Tompkins, $24,500 – to perform and present a chamber music series in homeless shelters in New York and Los Angeles

Karlos Rodrigeuz, $28,000 – to purchase a cello by Michael Doran

Meredith Riley, $1,400 – to attend ‘Music by the Sea’ in Bamfield, British Columbia

Robyn Qunnett, $15,000 – to found a music education and chamber music concert series in the island of Montserrat

Simone Seales, $6,000 – to attend ‘Project Trio’s Project’ in New York City and the ‘Interhamony International Summer Music Festival’ in Italy

Tamara Gonzalez, $9,700 – to run a 5 day multi-school string workshop in Puerto Rico
18 year old Maciej Kulakowski and 21 year old Zuzanna Sosnowska from Poland were awarded joint-1st prize at the 2015 Witold Lutoslawski International Cello Competition, in Warsaw, Poland.

2nd prize was awarded to Dorukhan Doruk from Turkey – with 3rd prize not awarded.

21 year old Romanian cellist Andrei Ioniță, was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Tchaikovsky International Cello Competition, in Moscow.

2nd prize was awarded to Alexander Ramm from Russia – and 3rd prize to Alexander Buzlov from Russia.

4th, 5th and 6th prizes were awarded to Pablo Ferrandez-Castro from Spain, Seung Min Kang from South Korea and  – and Jonathan Roozeman from the Netherlands.

21 year old Ella van Poucke from the Netherlands was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Isangyun International Cello Competition, in Tongyeong, South Korea.

2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to Mon-Puo Lee from Spain and James Jeonghwan Kim from South Korea.

18 year old Maciej Kulakowski and 21 year old Zuzanna Sosnowska from Poland were awarded joint-1st prize at the 2015 Witold Lutoslawski International Cello Competition, in Warsaw, Poland. 2nd prize was awarded to Dorukhan Doruk from Turkey.

24 year old Spanish cellist Pablo Ferrandez was announced as the recipient of the 2015 Rheingau Music Festival career development grant.

Israeli-American cellist Maya Beiser was 1 of 37 recipients of a 2015 United States Artists Distinguished Fellow in Music prize.

In the String Quartet division, 1st prize awarded awarded to the Mucha Quartet, from Slovakia. 2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to the Dolezalovo Quartet and the Selackovo Quartet, from the Czech Republic.

The French-based Van Kuijk Quartet was awarded 1st prize at the 2015 Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, in London.

Joint 2nd prize was awarded to the Piatti Quartet from the United Kingdom and the Verona Quartet from the United States – with 3rd place presented to the Aizuri Quartet from the United States.

The Swiss-based Belenus Quartet was awarded 1st prize, in the string quartet category of the 2015 International Franz Schubert and Modern Music Competition, in Graz, Austria.

2nd Prize was awarded to the Lyskamm Quartet ,from Italy – and 3rd prize presented to the Quartet Berlin-Tokyo from Japan-Israel.
