After winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year award in 2004, she regularly solos with the world's most prominent orchestras

Scottish violin virtuoso Nicola Benedetti was born on this day 34 years ago.

A graduate of the Yehudi Menuhin School, where she studied with Lord Menuhin and Natasha Boyarskaya, Benedetti won the BBC Young Musician of the Year award when she was just 16 years old.

She performs regularly with many of the world's finest orchestras and conductors and recently made her solo debut with the New York Philharmonic.

Her educational organization, the Benedetti Foundation, provides a multitude of online resources, live events, and educational materials to promote classical music.
