Happy Birthday Maxim Vengerov!
The Russian-born violinist, violist, and conductor is widely regarded as one of today's most eminent musicians
Maxim Vengerov was born on this day 50 years ago.
A protégé of Zakhar Bron, Vengerov is a former first prize winner at the Karol Lipinski and Carl Flesch International Violin Competitions. In addition to his widely-acclaimed solo career, he is a prolific recording artist, earning, among others, Grammy and Gramophone artist of the year awards.
In 1997, Vengerov was appointed as UNICEF's first International Goodwill Ambassador, performing for children in Uganda, Thailand, and Kosovo.
He currently serves teaching positions on faculty at London’s Royal Academy of Music and the Salzburg Mozarteum University.
Aside from teaching, Vengerov has also served on numerous competition juries, including the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition, the Yehudi Menuhin International Competition for Young Violinists, and also as chair of the Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition (2011 and 2016).
In 2013, he conducted the finals of the Montreal International Violin Competition.
Vengerov plays on the 1727 ex-Kreutzer Stradivari.
