Violinist Julia Fischer Performs in 2023 Nobel Prize Concert
The German violinist appeared with the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen
Presented since 2005 to honor the year’s Nobel Prize laureates, the annual Nobel Prize Concert has routinely featured renowned musicians and conductors.
The 2023 concert was held at the Konserthuset Stockholm on December 8, featuring violinist Julia Fischer in her debut with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra (RSPO) performing Brahms’ Violin Concerto with conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen.
The concert program also involved Boccherini’s Quattro versioni originale della (“four original versions of”) “Ritirata notturna di Madrid,” arranged for orchestra by Luciano Berio.
More works included Ravel’s ballet music for Daphnis and Chloé, in Suite No. 2, and Tumblebird Contrails by the young American composer Gabriella Smith, which was inspired by sounds of the Pacific Ocean.
Attended by members of the Swedish Royal family and Nobel Prize laureates and guests, the concert was part of a larger weekly program for the year’s Nobel Prize laureates.
