Sammons is known as a largely self-taught violinist who nevertheless achieved a high degree of technical prowess
Largely self-taught, Sammons is remembered in history for his close association with Elgar’s Violin Concerto — a work he championed and performed more than 100 times. He also contributed in the writing process and premiere of a violin concerto by Frederick Delius.
Later in his life, he taught privately at the Royal College of Music in London.
He passed away after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease.
