VC YOUNG ARTIST | Gabriel Martins, 22 — "A Revealed Heart, Passion, and Intellect"

American-Brazilian cellist, Gabriel Martins, has been praised by critics and audiences for his sophisticated musicality and nuanced palette of colors

A graduate of the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music, where he studied with Ralph Kirshbaum, and a current student of Laurence Lesser at the New England Conservatory, Gabriel is a former major prize winner of the Concert Artists Guild Victor Elmaleh Competition, Sphinx Competition, Schadt String Competition, Orford Music Award, and the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians.

His recent debuts include solo engagements with the Aspen Conducting Academy Orchestra, Fukuda Ensemble, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Modesto Symphony Orchestra, New Russia State Symphony Orchestra, Sphinx Symphony Orchestra, and USC Thornton Symphony.

Gabriel currently performs on a composite 1690 Francesco Ruggieri cello.
