VC Artist Ziyu He Performs Beethoven’s Violin Concerto
Ziyu performs the concerto with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and conductor Hans Graf
Filmed at Singapore’s Esplanade Hall in 2022, VC Artist Ziyu He is featured performing the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and its music director Hans Graf, with whom Ziyu regularly performs.
The concert also featured Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major, Op. 60, written in 1806 — the same year Beethoven composed his violin concerto.
Ziyu’s performance can be viewed below:
Ziyu began learning the violin at age five in his native China with Xiangrong Zhang. At 10 years old, he was invited by Paul Roczek to study with him at the Mozarteum University. He completed his master’s degree there in the summer of 2021 and is currently pursuing postgraduate violin studies with Benjamin Schmid and Paul Roczek and his viola studies with Thomas Riebl.
In 2017, he made his orchestral debut at age 18 with the Vienna Philharmonic and conductor Adam Fischer at the Musikverein — becoming one of the youngest soloists to ever do so. He is the former winner of the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg and the Yehudi Menuhin Competition. In 2014, he was the Eurovision Young Musician of the Year.
His orchestral engagements have included the Mariinsky Orchestra St. Petersburg, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, RAI National Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra della Toscana, Zagreb Philharmonic, and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, among others.
Also the violinist of the renowned Altenberg Trio, Ziyu plays regularly in the Brahmssaal of the Vienna Musikverein in the trio’s popular concert series.
Ziyu plays a Stradivari 1698, "Rouse Boughten," on loan from the Austrian National bank, plus a 1797 Giuseppe Guadagnini.
