VC Artist Hao Zhou's Winning Performance at 2019 Montreal International Violin Competition
Zhou performed Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1 in A minor in the finals of the CMIM
VC Artist Hao Zhou was awarded first prize at the 2019 Concours Musical International de Montréal (CMIM).
Open to violinists of any nationality aged 29 years or younger, the competition's first prize included $30,000 CAD, a $50,000 CAD career development grant, a modern instrument crafted by a number of Quebec’s finest violin and bow makers – plus a residency at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
The next violin edition of the CMIM will be held in 2023 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. For the Violin 2023 edition, violinists of all nationalities, born between January 1, 1993, and December 31, 2006, are invited to apply. Applications will close on November 15, 2022.

2019's audience prize was also awarded to Hao Zhou. A graduate of the Colburn School, where he studied with Martin Beaver, Hao is a founding member of the award-winning Viano String Quartet. The VC Artist quartet was the first-prize winner at the 2019 Banff International String Quartet Competition.
