VC Artist Clara-Jumi Kang Plays the Sibelius Concerto
The South Korean-German violinist appears alongside conductor Roberto González-Monjas and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia
VC Artist Clara-Jumi Kang's new live recording of the Sibelius Violin Concerto, Op. 47, is now available on YouTube. This particular performance was given in the opera house of A Coruña, a city in the Galicia region of Spain.
Kang's career began when she won the Indianapolis International Violin Competition in 2010, following successes at the Seoul Violin Competition (2009) and the Sendai Violin Competition (2010).
She has appeared solo with the Warsaw Philharmonic, Cologne Chamber Orchestra, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Kremerata Baltica, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Mariinsky Orchestra, Orchestre National de Belgique, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Orquesta Sinfónica de RTVE, Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra, and the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.
Kang studied with Zakhar Bron at the Lübeck Musikhochschule, with Dorothy DeLay at The Juilliard School, with Nam-Yun Kim at the Korean National University of Arts, and with Christophe Poppen at the Munich Musikhochschule.
Kang has three recordings to her name. On the Decca label, she has released Modern Solo (2011) — a disc of virtuoso works by Ysaÿe, Kreisler, and Milstein — as well as a disc of works by Brahms and both Schumanns. In 2021, alongside pianist Sunwook Kim, she released a complete recording of the Beethoven violin sonatas on the Accentus label.
Kang appears on this recording alongside conductor Roberto González-Monjas and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia. Alongside more traditional symphonic fare, the ensemble is particularly committed to new music and premieres several new works each year.
