Three violinists in the New York Philharmonic were recently awarded tenure by the orchestra's Music Director Jaap van Zweden.
Audrey Wright, Alina Kobialka, and I-Jung Huang were all appointed to the orchestra in 2022, and have now served the period required to be admitted as fully tenured members of the ensemble.
Originally from Taiwan, I-Jung Huang was a top prizewinner of the 2017 Ima Hogg Concerto Competition and the 2016 Hudson Valley String Competition; a Laureate of the 2015 Michael Hill International Violin Competition; a top prizewinner of the Taipei Symphony Orchestra “The Young Talent” competition and the Academy of Taiwan Strings Competition in Taiwan; and was the youngest musician selected at the Young Artist Taiwan Bank in 2011. She comes to the New York Philharmonic from the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra.
Alina Kobialka studied with Ilya Kaler at the Cleveland Institute, with Robert Lipsett and Danielle Belen at the Colburn School, Wei He at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s preparatory program, and Li Lin prior to that. She was named a laureate of the 2016 Irving M. Klein International Competition and received the Grand Prize at the Mondavi Center National Young Artists Competition. Kobialka made her solo debut with the San Francisco Symphony aged 14.
Previously the associate concertmaster of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra and the current concertmaster of the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, Audrey Wright holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music and a doctoral degree from the University of Maryland. She has appeared as a soloist with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, New World Symphony, and Cape Symphony Orchestra.
"Congratulations to newly tenured violinists Audrey Wright, Alina Kobialka, and I-Jung Huang!" the orchestra wrote. "We are so happy for you! "
