17 year old Simon Zhu from Germany has been awarded 1st prize at the 2018 Valsesia Musica International Violin Competition

17 year old Simon Zhu from Germany has been awarded 1st prize at the 2018 Valsesia Musica International Violin Competition – in Varallo Sesia, Italy.

A student of Professors Koh Gabriel Kameda and Tomasz Tomaszewski, Simon is a former 1st prize winner at the 2017 Kloster Schöntal International Violin Competition.

Joint 2nd prize was awarded to 23 year old Yukari Ohno from Japan and 28 year old Oleksandr Pushkarenko from Ukraine.

Simon will receive €8,000. 

Previous major prize-winners include Sayaka Shoji, Roman Simovic, Francesca Dego, Noe Inui - and VC Artists Nikita Boriso-Glebsky, Fedor Rudin, Rennosuke Fukuda and Ioana Cristina Goicea.

The 2018 jury comprised: Alexandre Brussilovsky (President), Christian Anzinger, Vincenzo Balzani, Lindita Hoxha and Alexander Zyumbrovskiy.
