Cello Prizes Awarded at Germany’s Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Competition
Cellist Sebastian Fritsch has been awarded 1st prize in the cello division of the 2019 Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Music Competition
22-year-old German cellist Sebastian Fritsch has been awarded 1st prize in the cello division of the 2019 Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University Music Competition - in Berlin.
A student of Jean-Guihen Queyras at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg, Sebastian is a former 1st prize winner at the TONALI Cello Competition, in Hamburg.
He will receive €4,000.
Hosted annually since 1967 by the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation, the Rectors’ Conference of German Music Universities and the Berlin University of Arts, and focusing each year on a different instrumental discipline, the competition is open only to student of selected German conservatories.
2nd and 3rd prizes in this year's cello competition were awarded to Sul Yoon from South Korea and Petar Pejčić from Serbia.
