Queen Elisabeth Competition Releases CD Set of the 2024 Edition
The four-disc collection features all twelve laureates playing concerti, chamber music, and show pieces
Belgium's Queen Elisabeth Competition has released a 4-CD set of recordings from its 2024 edition. The discs captures all twelve of the competition's laureates, and also cover a wide range of the repertoire performed throughout the competition.
Four different works with the Belgian National Orchestra and conductor Antony Hermus are available. First Prize winner Dmytro Udovychenko performs the Shostakovich Violin Concerto No. 1 and Joshua Brown (Second Prize) plays the Brahms concerto, with both recordings being taken from the live finals.
In addition, there is a performance of the Tchaikovsky concerto by Julian Rhee (Fifth Prize), as well as Udovychenko's interpretation of the compulsory work by Thierry Escaich.
There are also Mozart concerto recordings from the semi-final round, featuring the Orchestre Royal de Chambre de Wallonie conducted by Vahan Mardirossian. Here, Minami Yoshida (Sixth Prize) plays the Concerto No. 1, and Kevin Zhu (Fourth Prize) plays the Concerto No. 4.
The recordings also feature chamber music from the earlier rounds, including Beethoven's Sonata No. 7 in C minor played by Joshua Brown, and the Fantasia by Schubert played by Elli Choi (Third Prize).
Other composers featured on the discs include Schnittke, Bartók, Saint-Saëns, and Lutosławski, among others.
