The violin, cello and chamber music prizes have been awarded at the 2018 Johannes Brahms International Music Competition
The violin, cello and chamber music prizes have been awarded at the 2018 Johannes Brahms International Music Competition – in Pörtschach, Austria.
1st prize in this year's violin division was awarded to 23-year-old violinist Eva Zavaro from France.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 18-year-old violinist Maine Nishiyama from Japan – and 27 year old violinist Julia Turnovsky from Austria.
18-year-old Luca Giovannini from Italy and 31-year-old Alexey Zhilin from Russia were awarded joint-1st prize in this year's cello division.
3rd prize was awarded to 22-year-old cellist Sul Yoon from South Korea.
In the 2018 Chamber Music division, the Duo Maestro, comprising cellist Alexey Zhilin and pianist Andrey Baranenko, was awarded 1st prize.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to the Arcon Trio and Atalante Quartet.
This year’s violin jury comprised: Andrej Bielow, Arik Braude, Johann Ko, Elisabeth Jess-Kropfitsch, Jan Mráček, Orfej Simic and Andreas Vierziger.
This year’s cello jury comprised: Alexandre Bouzlov, Stefan Kropfitsch,Matthieu Lejeune, Yuki Miyagi, Kyung-Ok Park and Éva Simić-Németh.
This year’s chamber music jury comprised: Sophie Arbuckle, Jiří Hlaváč, Catalin Ilea, Oliver Kipp, Johannes Kropfitsch and Ernst Lintner.
Previous Brahms International Music Competition prize winners include: VC Artists Francisco Garcia Fullana, Ioana Cristina Goicea, Lara Boschkor and Emmanuel Tjeknavorian.
