Prizes Awarded at Sperger International Bass Competition 'Quarantine Challenge'

The category prizes have been awarded for the J.M Sperger International Double Bass Competition 'Quarantine Challenge'

The category prizes have this week been awarded for the J.M. Sperger International Double Bass Competition 'Quarantine Challenge' - held virtually from the 15th of June to the 27th of July.

Open to international bassists of all ages, the competition categories included: 'Virtuosity', 'No Limit', 'Innovation', 'Creativity', 'Split Screen', 'Cinematic Award', 'Young Artist Award', 'Humour Award', 'Jury Award' and 'Audience Prize'.

"We all need a little extra motivation and encouragement during this difficult time, so we decided to launch an international double bass quarantine challenge ... " the German-based competition organizers have this week said.

"Our hope it is has helped our international bass community stay connected a little more musically - and actively encouraged us all to continue chasing our goals."

Naomi Shaham from Israel and Zhelin Wen from China were awarded joint 1st prize in the 'Virtuosity' category.

Joint 2nd prize was awarded to Vicente Salas Ramirez from Chile, Arsenii Gazizov from Russia and Felix Leissner from Germany.

3rd prize was awarded to Julián Medina from Argentina.

 

 

 

Jacob Warren from the United States was awarded 1st prize in the 'No Limit' category.

Joint 3rd prize was awarded to Vincas Bačius from Lithuania and Robert Catinella from the United States.

Takuya Kuribara from Japan was awarded 1st prize in the 'Innovation' category.

Gregor Praml from Germany was awarded 1st prize in the 'Creativity' category.

Glenn Grossmann from Germany was awarded 1st prize in the 'Split Screen' category.

Joint 3rd prize was awarded to Thomas Allin from Denmark and Riccardo Baiocco from Italy.

Antonio Mercurio from Italy was awarded the 'Cinematic Award'.

Junha Moon from South Korea was awarded the 'Young Artist Award'.

Gleb Diaghilev from Russian was awarded the 'Humour Award'.

Glenn Grossmann from Germany was awarded the 'Jury Award'.

Vicente Salas Ramirez from Chile and Riccardo Baiocco from Italy were both awarded 'Audience Prizes'.

The 'challenge' jury comprised: Leon Bosch (United Kingdom), Hiroshi Ikematsu (Japan), Robert Nairn (Australia), Jeff Bradetich (United States) and Christine Hoock (Germany).

The next J.M Sperger International Double Bass Competition will be held from the 27th of March to the 3rd of April 2022 - in Ludwigslust, Germany.
