Philharmonie de Paris and Cité Musicale-Metz Renew Collaboration for Five More Years
The two organizations will continue their work with social projects such as the Démos children's orchestra and the La Maestra Academy for female conductors
The Philharmonie de Paris and the Cité musicale-Metz have announced that their partnership will continue for another five years, to allow the two organizations to continue developing their shared artistic and social projects.
Describing itself as a "nerve center for artists," the Cité musicale-Metz is the home of the Orchestre national de Metz Grand Est and its players. It hosts a wide range of musical events, with the aim of reaching audiences across generations and of all socio-economic backgrounds.
Through its partnership with the Philharmonie de Paris, the organization also supports a number of social projects. Chief among these is the Démos program, which teaches classical music to children who would normally not have access to it. Aimed at children aged 7 to 12, the project reaches those in both urban and rural areas.
Since the inception of Démos, the program has reached more than 11,000 children. The renewal of the partnership will facilitate a study on the feasibility of setting up a full Démos orchestra in rural areas.
The partnership also supports emerging female conductors through the Orchestre national de Metz Grand Est and its Music Director David Reiland. This orchestra plays for both the La Maestra Academy and the Gabriel Pierné International Conducting Masterclasses.
The La Maestra Academy represents a particularly strong commitment to gender equity on the conducting podium, and offers each of its three annual winners a program of professional engagements and mentoring through collaborations with the Philharmonie de Paris, the Paris Mozart Orchestra, and their partners: the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO), Association Française des Orchestres, and Victoires de la Musique.
