Website "Penderecki's Garden" to Honor the Polish Composer
To honor the life, teachings, and music-making of Krzysztof Penderecki, a website titled "Penderecki's Garden" has been launched by The Adam Mickiewicz Institute
The Adam Mickiewicz Institute is an organization funded by Poland's Ministry of Culture and National Heritage.
The virtual garden, filled with poetry, inspirations, and the music of Penderecki, launched on the one-year anniversary of his death, March 29.
The garden provides a comprehensive overview of the composer's legacy and takes the viewer on a virtual journey of the composer's life, interests, and accomplishments. Cultural influences and phenomena will be featured through the lenses of short sound, visual, and audio-visual pieces.
The idea is reminiscent of another one of Penderecki's passions aside from music: tending to his own garden.
The launch date of this website also featured a concert of newly commissioned works by Max Richter and Hania Rani, performed by the Atom String Quartet. The quartet also performed Penderecki's own arrangements of various pieces.
"I am thrilled about the premiere of Penderecki's Garden, a project devoted to the two greatest passions of my husband — music and nature," said Elżbieta Penderecka, Penderecki's widow. "The initiative of the Adam Mickiewicz Institute will introduce international audiences to his world and its unique character, inspiring the next generation of creators."
