Hyperion Records has this month announced the release of British violist Lawrence Power's new album: 'James MacMillan Viola Concerto'.

Recorded with conductor Martyn Brabbins and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the disc features contemporary Scottish composer James MacMillan's Viola Concerto - coupled with his newly-premiered 4th Symphony.

''As a performing musician, I’m always inspired and rejuvenated when working with composers ... it's endlessly fascinating to interact with music in such a pure way - without the distractions of tradition and expectation ..." Lawrence has this week told The Violin Channel.

"This extraordinary concerto was written for me in 2014 and since then I have played it all over the world ... James Macmillan is truly one of the most extraordinary voices in New Music today - and I feel very fortunate to record this work, having lived with it on stage for the last few years," the former Primrose International Violin Competition 1st prize winner has said.
