OUT NOW | Sebastian Bohren's CD: Prokofiev's Sonata No. 1
Recorded with the Georgian Chamber Ochestra, the album features Andrei Pushkarev's arrangement of the iconic Prokofiev sonata
Sony Classics announced the release of violinist Sebastian Bohren's new album featuring Sergei Prokofiev's Violin Sonata Op. 80, arranged by Andrei Pushkarev for violin, strings, and percussion.
The album was recorded live in 2019 with the Georgian Chamber Orchestra and is the premiere recording of the arrangement.
Bohren said he was inspired to reimagine the Prokofiev sonata — one of his favorite works — after listening to a similar arrangement of the Shostakovich violin sonata played by Gidon Kremer.
"I think that this arrangement brings a different perspective to this much-loved sonata," Bohren told The Violin Channel.
"I hope that listeners will be curious and enchanted by the colors Andrei Pushkarev found. I also hope that other violinists will take it on, since the score was recently released by Sikorski as well!"
