Opéra National de Lorraine Appoints New Music Director
Polish conductor Marta Gardolińska will assume the role in Nancy, France, at the start of the 2021-2022 season, for a period of three years
A graduate of Warsaw's Frederic Chopin University and Vienna's University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Gardolińska recently served in the Los Angeles Philharmonic's Dudamel Fellowship Program.
She was also the Young Conductor in Association at the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra during the 18/19 and 19/20 seasons.
"I am thrilled to start an artistic journey together with the whole team of the Opéra national de Lorraine in Nancy," Gardolińska said. "I was impressed with the musicality and professionalism of the orchestra. From the very beginning, I had the feeling that we can always focus on what is the most important, music, and that I can count on the engagement and creativity of the musicians. It fills me with pride that I will get to shape the cultural life of a place that was strongly shaped by a former Polish king, Stanisław Leszczyński. I hope to give the best possible representation of Polish culture here in Nancy."
"Marta Gardolińska is part of a new generation of European artists with multifaceted talent and luminous energy," Matthieu Dussouillez, general and artistic director, said. "I am delighted to share the adventure of the Opéra national de Lorraine with our new music director alongside the teams, artists and the audience."
