Women in Classical Music Symposium to Honor Nicola Benedetti
The Dallas Symphony Orchestra's Women in Music Symposium will be held in November of 2023
Violinist Nicola Benedetti is the recipient of the 2023 Award of Excellence at the Women in Classical Music Symposium, which is hosted by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra.
The 2023 edition will be held between November 12-15 at the Dallas Symphony's Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center. The symposium, which you can register for here, will include panel discussions, workshops, and chamber music performances, as well as a reception and mentoring opportunities.
Winner of the GRAMMY Award for Best Classical Instrumental Solo in 2020, as well as Best Female Artist at both the 2012 and 2013 Classical BRIT Awards, Nicola records exclusively for Decca (Universal Music).
In March 2022, Nicola became the Director Designate of the Edinburgh International Festival, becoming Festival Director in October 2022. In taking the role she will be both the first Scottish and the first female Festival Director since the Festival began in 1947.
In 2019 she established the Benedetti Foundation, which runs four programs that help to increase participation in and appreciation of music at all levels. These programs are run both live and virtually and have reached 50,000 participants in 103 different countries.
Of particular note are the foundation's Benedetti Sessions — three-day workshops for school-age string players that afford children the opportunity to work with Benedetti and other highly skilled pedagogues.
