Nathalie Stutzmann Conducts The Atlanta Symphony in Dvořák Album
Released on Warner Classics & Erato, the album features Dvořák’s American Suite and Symphony No. 9
Conductor Nathalie Stutzmann has released her recording debut as Music Director of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO). The album on the Warner Classics & Erato label features two orchestral works by Dvořák.
The first is Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World,” which has become ingrained in the American musical landscape.
Written and premiered in 1893, his Symphony No. 9 was one of the works Dvořák produced during his three-year visit to America. His other works from this time include his popular String Quartet in F major, Op. 96, “The American.”
His lesser-known American Suite in A major was originally written in 1894 for piano and was orchestrated in 1895. Each of the movements is dance-inspired and connects through the outer movements. This suite premiered 10 years after the ninth symphony, and shortly after Dvořák’s death in 1904.
Recorded live in Symphony Hall in November 2023, this album marks Stutzmann’s first purely orchestral recording and her third year as Music Director of the ASO.

“People in Atlanta have been able to hear and see the special kind of music-making that’s been developing here between Nathalie and the orchestra,” ASO’s Executive Director, Jennifer Barlament told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “This is really kind of our coming-out party on a national, international basis.”
