Mirecourt International Violin Competition 2023 Announces Finalists
Tune in to The Violin Channel on November 14 at 6 PM (ET) to witness the finals of this year's competition
The Mirecourt International Violin Competition, organized by the Jeunesses Musicales de Mirecourt, is taking place in Mirecourt and Thaon-les-Vosges, France.
After a competitive semi-final round, the following competitors will perform in the final round next week — which will be available to watch on The Violin Channel on November 14.
- Hannah Kim (21, South Korea)
- Yixuan Ren (19, China)
- Jaewon Wee (24, South Korea)
- Matthew Hakkarainen (23, USA/Finland)
In the semifinal round, the special prize for the best interpretation of the French Sonata was awarded to Yixuan Ren for Poulenc's sonata.
The 2023 jury is comprised Christian Altenburger (Austria), Nora Chastain (USA), Hu Kun (China), Alissa Margulis (Russia), Mihaela Martin (Romania), Lavard Skou-Larsen (Brazil), and Marianne Piketty (France).
The first through fourth prize winners will receive € 5,000, € 3,000, € 1,000, and € 500 respectively. Several special prizes will also be offered — including a modern bow prize, valued at €4,000, a prize for the best interpretation of the contemporary piece, one for the best interpretation of the French sonata, and the Special Prize of Contemporary String Instrument Manufacturing including a two-year-lent-violin by David Wiedmer.
Former first prize winners include Nathan Mierdl and Jian Ren, Yuna Ha, Roman Kholmatov and Yuliia Van, and Qingzhu Weng from the last edition.
