Mimir Chamber Music Festival Opens Emerging Artist Applications

Open to pre-formed string quartets and piano trios, the program will take place from July 1-12, 2024, in Fort Worth, Texas

Founded in 1998 at the Texas Christian University’s School of Music, the Mimir Chamber Music Festival provides public performances for Fort Worth audiences and offers an educational opportunity for young aspiring musicians. This year's edition will be held from July 1 through July 12, 2024, and will celebrate the event's 27th anniversary.

Mimir's Emerging Artist Program is available for pre-formed string quartets and piano trios who are seeking the opportunity to work with leading chamber musicians from across North America.

The festival's 2024 artists, with whom the emerging artists will study, include the likes of the Horszowski Trio, pianists Rieko Aizawa and John Novacek, cellists Ole Akahoshi and Brant Taylor, violists Joan DerHovsepian and Jessica Thompson, violinists Jun Iwasaki, Stephen Rose, Curt Thompson, and Jesse Mills.

Open to those over the age of 18 (as of June 30, 2024), the Emerging Artist initiative includes an intense daily rehearsal and coaching schedule to prepare groups for two ticketed performances.

Tuition and dormitory housing on the grounds of TCU’s campus in Fort Worth, Texas will be covered. The chosen groups will also participate in a special musicians’ injury prevention project directed by the UNT Center for Performing Arts Health.

During the application process, groups will be asked to submit a high-quality video audition of approximately 20 minutes or more in length. Specific repertoire is not required, although varied selections are desirable. The deadline for applications is March 20th, 2024.

Past Emerging Artist participants include prizewinners of the Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition and members of the Pittsburgh, Detroit, and Monaco Symphonies.

Since its beginning in 1998, Mimir has presented over 200 exceptional concerts and mentored some 500 talented young Emerging Artists worldwide. Expanding their programming in 2013, the organization added a second week-long festival in Australia.
