London’s Royal Academy of Music Announces Hilary Hahn as Visiting Professor
Hahn will assume the role, effective as of September 2024
As the Royal Academy of Music’s (RAM) Visiting Professor from September 2024, Hilary Hahn will join the RAM’s roster of leading musicians and pedagogues, including James Ehnes, Steven Isserlis, Sheku Kanneh-Mason, Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider, and VC Artist Timothy Ridout.
A three-time GRAMMY Award winner, Hahn will bring her extensive musical and technical expertise and experience with diverse repertoire to her new role, plus lead masterclasses, and develop and mentor student projects.
Hahn was previously artist-in-residence at London’s Wigmore Hall. Currently, she serves as the New York Philharmonic’s Mary and James G. Wallach Artist-in-Residence and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s inaugural Artist-in-Residence.
Awarded Yale University’s Chubb Fellowship in 2022, she served as the Yale College Artist-in-Residence in the following year. She is also the Juilliard School’s Visiting Artist in the Music Division.
A champion of new music, Hahn has commissioned works by numerous contemporary composers; her 2021 album Paris features the world premiere recording of Rautavaara’s Deux Sérénades, written for her and completed posthumously by Kalevi Aho.
As a recording artist, Hahn has released 22 feature albums on the Decca, Deutsche Grammophon, and Sony labels that have opened in the top 10 of the Billboard charts.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the Royal Academy of Music as Visiting Professor,” Hahn said in the press release. “Within the classical music world, knowledge being passed from generation to generation is key in ensuring both artistic individuality and healthy collaboration. Having the chance to do so at the revered Academy is an honor, and I can’t wait to hear what these young musicians will be offering the generations to come”
“It is such an amazing privilege to be able to welcome Hilary Hahn as Visiting Professor at the Royal Academy of Music,” added RAM’s Head of Strings, Graham Mitchell. “She truly is one of the most illustrious, inquisitive and inspiring artists of our generation and I know our students will benefit greatly from her presence here.”
