Florida's Jacksonville Symphony Appoints New Concertmaster

Adelya Nartadjieva will work alongside the orchestra's Music Director Courtney Lewis, passing on Lewis' musical ideas to the various string sections and stepping in for a soloist should any unforeseen circumstances occur.

Commenting on Nartadjieva's new role, Lewis said: "Adelya is a first-rate violinist with a beautiful sound. She’s played with many of the world’s finest conductors and will bring skill to the Jacksonville Symphony in spades. She also did something amazing during her trial weeks here: created consensus between the orchestra, the search committee and me! I’m very excited about having her join us, especially after such a long search.”

Winner of several international competitions in Greece, Singapore, United States, Russia, and Uzbekistan, Nartadjieva's awards include the first prize at the Woolsey Concerto Competition at Yale, the Gershwin International Competition, an education grant from the Rachel Barton Pine Foundation, as well as the Broadus Erle Prize from the Yale School of Music.

Nartadjieva is a graduate of the Yale School of Music with a Master's Degree, where she studied with Hyo Kang, Manhattan School of Music where she studied with Glenn Dicterow and Lisa Kim, and Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in Singapore with Qian Zhou.

From 2016-2018, Nartadjieva was a member of Ensemble Connect (formerly known as Ensemble ACJW), a highly selective two-year fellowship program under the joint auspices of Carnegie Hall, The Weill Institute, and The Juilliard School. With Ensemble Connect, she performed regularly at Carnegie Hall, often in collaboration with renowned conductors and guest artists such as Sir Simon Rattle at Zankel Hall.

Besides performing, Nartadjieva is also committed to arts advocacy and education. She served as a teaching artist for Carnegie Hall at New York City schools through her extensive educational outreach working with Ensemble Connect. Additionally, Nartadjieva and a fellow colleague from Ensemble Connect co-founded Chime for Children, an organization that aims to bring joy and inspiration through interactive performances to children with limited exposure and access to music.

"I am so delighted to be joining the Jacksonville Symphony family for next season and the years to come," said Nartadjieva. "It is an honor to be part of such a vibrant and warm artistic atmosphere. I can’t wait to make music together and share it with the community."
