BREAKING | Finalists Announced at 2018 Indianapolis International Violin Competition

The 6 Finalists have been announced at the 10th Quadrennial International Violin Competition of Indianapolis - including 3 VC Young Artists

The 6 Finalists have just minutes ago been announced at the 10th Quadrennial International Violin Competition of Indianapolis, in Indianapolis, United States – including 3 VC Young Artists.

The 2018 Finalists are:

  • VC Young Artist Ioana Cristina Goicea (25, Romania)
  • VC Young Artist Luke Hsu (28, United States)
  • VC Young Artist Richard Lin (27, Taiwan/United States)
  • Risa Hokamura (17, Japan)
  • Shannon Lee (26, United States/Canada)
  • Anna Lee (23, United States)

Open to violinists of any nationality aged between 16 and 29 who are ready to embark on an international career, the 2018 gold medalist will receive USD $30,000, a Carnegie Hall Stern Auditorium recital debut and international concert engagements – plus career management and the 4 year use of the 1683 ‘ex-Gingold’ Stradivarius violin.

For the Final Round, to be held from the 12th to the 15th of September, each 2018 Finalist will present a classical concerto with the East Coast Chamber Orchestra - plus a major violin concerto with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.

A total of more than US $250,000 in prizes and awards will be presented to the 2018 laureates.

Previous major prize winners include: Leonidas Kavakos, Judith Ingolfsson, Sergey Khachatryan, Simone Lamsma, Mihaela Martin, Ida Kavafian – and VC Artists Augustin Hadelich, Tessa Lark, Ji Young Lim, Yoojin Jang and Benjamin Beilman.

The 2018 jury comprises: Jury President and Artistic Director Jaime Laredo, Arnold Steinhardt, Pamela Frank, Cho-Liang Lin, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Dong-Suk Kang, Rodney Friend, Mihaela Martin and Kyoko Takezawa.
