Korean Gyehee Kim Awarded 1st Prize at Enescu Violin Competition
23 year old Gyehee Kim from South Korea has been awarded 1st prize at the 2016 George Enescu International Violin Competition
BUCHAREST, ROMANIA – 23 year old Gyehee Kim, from South Korea, has been awarded 1st prize at the 2016 George Enescu International Violin Competition, in Romania.
A graduate of the Seoul National University, where she studied with Young Uck Kim, Gyehee is a former prize winner at the Isang Yun International Violin Competition and the Tchaikovsky International Competition for Young Violinists.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 16 year old Donghyun Kim, from South Korea and 29 year old VC Young Artist Erzhan Kulibaev, from Kazakhstan.
“George Enescu’s soul …. his spirit is responsible for this warm atmosphere and the feeling of a true musical event … thank you for keeping it alive...” Jury Chair Pierre Amoyal has said to this year's finalists.
Gyehee will receive 15,000 EUR (US $17,000) plus a number of important international performance invitations.
This year’s violin jury comprised: Pierre Amoyal (Jury Chair), Remus Azoiței, Florin Croitoru, Mikhail Kopelman, Silvia Marcovici, Mihaela Martin, Eduard Schmieder and Miczyslaw Szlezer.
Previous major prize winners include: Silvia Marcovici, Philip Hirshchhorn, Alexandru Tomescu and Valery Sokolov – and VC Young Artists Alexandra Conunova & Fedor Rudin.
