Fundraiser Launched For Violinist Chihsuan Yang Following Severe Car Crash

Yang has two fractured vertebrae, while her partner and daughter also suffered from severe injuries

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Chicago-based violinist Chihsuan Yang, to help cover her family's medical costs following a devastating car accident.

Yang, her partner Nikki, and her 10-year-old daughter Ember were driving home after a concert when a car going in the opposite direction flipped over the center divider on the freeway.

The accident cause a fracture to Yang's L1 and L4 vertebrae, while Nikki suffered from a fractured sternum and collarbone. Ember also broke her sternum and has internal bruising from the impact.

Yang is devastated, as it is unclear when she will be able to play again, and she relies on performing for her livelihood.

So far, the page has raised $78k for Yang and her family, but this sum is still short of their $100k goal. The money will cover medical costs and should alleviate the family's insurance concerns.

Originally from Taiwan, Yang has had a distinguished career as a violinist. She also performs on erhu and piano and has been nominated for a Grammy award. As a member of the group Corky Siegel's ChamberBlues, she has toured widely and performed in a wide range of styles.

"Chihsuan and Nikki have asked me to express their gratitude and appreciation for ALL the love, encouragement and financial support that you have provided over the last week," wrote Amber H. Bobin, the fundraiser's organizer.

"It has been overwhelming in a good way...each day brings its own set of challenges and victories, activating positive and negative emotions alike but words can't express how much they appreciate your support," Bobin added.
