Duo Ingolfsson-Stoupel's New Album "Rebecca Clarke: Sonatas For Violin, Viola & Piano"
Released on Oehms Classics, the album features works by British-American composer and violist Rebecca Clarke
Duo Ingolfsson-Stoupel comprises violinist and violist Judith Ingolfsson and pianist Vladimir Stoupel. Released on Oehms Classics, their newest album features Rebecca Clarke's Viola Sonata and her Violin Sonatas in D Major and G Major.
Born in London in 1886, violinist, violist, and composer Rebecca Clarke was most notable for her songs and chamber music works. Clarke's Viola Sonata was completed and premiered in 1919 at the Berkshire Festival of Chamber Music. The Violin Sonata in G Major was discovered in Clarke's estate in 2002 — incomplete and unpublished — resulting in a single-movement sonata.
Both Violin Sonatas were recently published after over 100 years after completion. The album explores the life and artistic vision of Rebecca Clarke, who defied the conventions of her era as a female composer in the 20th century.
