BREAKING | Dmytro Udovychenko Awarded 1st Prize at Brussels' Queen Elisabeth Competition
The 25-year-old Ukrainian violinist has just minutes ago been awarded 1st prize at the 2024 Queen Elisabeth International Violin Competition, in Belgium
A graduate of the Folkwang University of the Arts, in Essen, Germany, where he studied with Boris Garlitsky, and a current student of Christian Tetzlaff at the Kronberg Academy, Dmytro is a former major prize winner at the Montreal, Sibelius, Singapore, and Joachim International Violin Competitions.
2nd and 3rd prizes were awarded to 24-year-old VC Young Artist Joshua Brown from the United States and 22-year-old VC Young Artist Elli Choi from the United States
4th, 5th and 6th prizes were awarded to 23-year-old VC Young Artist Kevin Zhu from the United States, 23-year-old VC Young Artist Julian Rhee from the United States, and 25-year-old VC Young Artist Minami Yoshida from Japan.
The six unranked laureates of the 2024 edition include VC Young Artist Hana Chang, VC Young Artist SongHa Choi, Karen Su, Dayoon You, and Ruslan Talas, and Anna Im.
Open to international violinists aged 18 to 30 years old who are ready to embark on an international career, x will receive €25,000, a CD recording, a number of important international performance opportunities plus the 4 year use of the 1708 Huggins Stradivarius violin, on generous loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.
The 2024 final round jury comprised: Augustin Dumay, Miriam Fried, Lorenzo Gatto, Philippe Graffin, Koichiro Harada, Dong-Suk Kang, Kyung Sun Lee, Midori, Vadim Repin, Vineta Sareika, Dmitry Sitkovetsky, Baiba Skride and Isabelle van Keulen.
Previous first-prize winners include the likes of David Oistrakh, Leonid Kogan, Jaime Laredo, Phillippe Hischhorn, Miriam Fried, Vadim Repin, Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider, Baiba Skride, and VC Artists Ray Chen, Stella Chen, and Ji-Young Lim.
