Austrian composer and conductor Anton Webern died on this day in 1945 – aged 61.
A protégé of Arnold Schoenberg, Webern is remembered for his innovations with serialism and schematic organisation of pitch, rhythm and dynamics.
His major contributions to the violin repertoire include 2 String Quartet, 2 String Trios, 'Four Pieces' for Violin and Piano, 'Two Pieces' for Cello and Piano and 'Three Little Pieces' for Cello and Piano.
