Cleveland Quartet Documentary to Receive Premiere
Titled "Notes From Behind the Iron Curtain: Cleveland Quartet's 1990 Soviet Tour," the documentary contains exclusive footage of the quartet
CelloBello, which is a prominent educational website for cellists, will soon host the premiere of a never-before-seen documentary on the Cleveland Quartet. Titled "Notes From Behind the Iron Curtain: Cleveland Quartet's 1990 Soviet Tour", the documentary contains exclusive footage which traces the ensemble's cultural influence in the USSR during the Cold War.
As well as the documentary screening, the event will also feature performances by the Weilerstein Trio (comprising Donald, Vivian, and Alisa Weilerstein), and by a cello ensemble made up of members of The Cleveland Orchestra including Mark Kosower, Richard Weiss, Charles Bernard, and Bryan Dumm.
In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to engage in a Q&A session with the 1990 members of the Cleveland Quartet: Donald Weilerstein, Peter Salaff, James Dunham, and Paul Katz. During this session the quartet will share their experiences and anecdotes from the time of the Soviet tour.
All proceeds from the event will go towards CelloBello, which is a nonprofit organization that aims to make lessons, masterclasses, and interviews available to all cellists.
The screening will take place at the Reinberger Chamber Hall in Severance Music Center, Cleveland, on Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Tickets are available from the Severance Music Center Box Office.
