The Camerata Notturna Community Chamber Orchestra, in New York, has this week announced the appointment of violinist and conductor David Chan as its new Music Director – effective from the commencement of the 2018-2019 season.
A graduate of Harvard University and the Juilliard School, David currently serves as Concertmaster of New York's Metropolitan Opera - and has performed as soloist with leading international orchestras, including the Moscow State Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra of Taiwan, San Diego Symphony and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
"It was amazing to see the passion and the joy that David inspired in our musicians after just a few short weeks of working with us, so it is absolutely thrilling to contemplate what we can do together over the next three years ... " Orchestra Executive Director Steve Cho has said.
"David brings to us not only a brilliant musical intellect, but also a dynamic presence on the podium, a wealth of practical knowledge gained from decades of experience as a leading orchestral player, and a warm and humble demeanor that makes playing for him a true pleasure," he has said.
