Winners Announced at American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers

Serbian composer Milica Paranosic is this year’s recipient of the ASCAP Plus Award in the Concert Music category

The American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP) Plus Awards program recognizes ASCAP members that compose children’s, concert, jazz, and musical theater music. These works are substantially performed in media not surveyed by ASCAP.

As the Plus Award recipient in the Concert Music category, ASCAP composer Milica Paranosic joins thousands of ASCAP songwriter and composer members who have received the award, which has been distributed for over 50 years.

The awards are determined by an independent panel of distinguished music experts who are neither members nor employees of ASCAP. Rather than being a competition, the panel decides recipients of the Plus Award on the merit of each application in the context of all others applicants.

“Thank you American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers (ASCAP) for awarding me the ASCAP Plus Award,” Paranosic wrote on Facebook. “I’m moved, thankful and inspired.”

Paranosic has a Master’s degree in composition from The Juilliard School, where she was a faculty member for over 20 years. Her work has been commissioned by organizations including the Whitney Museum, New Dramatists, American Composers Orchestra, Louis Vuitton, VisionIntoArt, Buglisi Dance Theater, Joyce Theater, Symphony Space, Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, BAM café, and Bohemian National Hall among others.

Creating works solo multimedia shows and sound installations to operatic and symphonic pieces, Paranosic has also scored films including the award-winning Das Fräulein (2006), Cure: The Life of Another (2014), and independent animated short, Killing Anabella (2019).

Additionally, she is the founder and president of the Harlem-based non-profit for music and multimedia, Paracademia Center, Inc. and is an advisory board member at Composers Now and Miolina

Her recent awards include Musical America’s Top 30 Professionals of the Year, which was also received by The Violin Channel founder, Geoffrey John Davies.
