New Chief Conductor at the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra
French conductor Alain Altinoglu joins the orchestra for the opening of the 2021/22 season
In addition to this new position, Altinoglu currently serves as Music Director of Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels.
A graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, he now serves on its conducting faculty.
Highlights of his 2021/2022 season include appearances at the Salzburger Festspiele alongside debuts with the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig and Czech Philharmonic. He will also continue his guest conducting relationships with the Wiener Symphoniker and Staatskapelle Berlin.
Altinoglu will bring his French influence to the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra — with planned performances of Edgar Moreau, Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Renaud Capuçon, Claude Debussy, and more.
“Following a period with no audiences, there is a palpable sense of excitement for new beginnings and great curiosity about their artistic road together,” Orceshtra Manager Michael Traub stated in a press release.
“Every single member of the orchestra and the whole team is looking forward to Alain Altinoglu’s arrival, and moreover, to bringing a multifaceted programme with new musical directions to their Frankfurt audiences.”
Altinoglu's inaugural concert included Alban Berg's Violin Concerto with Frank Peter Zimmerman and Hector Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique.
Additionally this season, pianist Víkingur Ólafsson will be performing with the orchestra as the new Artist in Residence.
