The Tanglewood Summer Music Festival, in Lenox, Massachusetts, United States, has today announced the cancellation of its 2020 Summer Festival – due to the ongoing threat of the COVID-19 virus.
Founded in 1937 as the summer home of the Boston Symphony, the annual event was scheduled to take place from the 19th of June to the 30th of August, 2020.
The Tanglewood Festival has only previously not been held during the 2nd World War.
The ten week summer concert series will be transitioned to a virtual festival this year, festival organizers have today indicated – with more details to be announced at a later date.
“There is no doubt that we are all disheartened over the loss of being together for live music performances this summer, as well as the loss of so many other cultural offerings throughout the Berkshire region..." Boston Symphony Music Director Andris Nelsons has today said.
